House vocabulary with images



House vocabulary

1.    Chimney (चिमनी)  
a vertical channel or pipe that conducts smoke and combustion gases up from a fire or furnace and typically through the roof of a building.
2.    Drainpipe (परनाला) 
a pipe for carrying off rainwater or liquid refuse from a building.
3.    Burglar alarm (चोर खंति) – 
an electronic device that triggers a loud noise or other alert when someone attempts to make unauthorized entry to a building or other premises.

4.    Balcony -- 
a platform enclosed by a wall or balustrade on the outside of a building, with access from an upper-floor window or door.
5.    Windowpane (खड़की का शिशा) – 
a single piece of glass in the window of a building.
6.    Ridge (चोटी) – 
the line or edge formed where the two sloping sides of a roof meet at the top.
7.    Garage (मोटर खाना)
 a building where a car is kept, built next to or as part of a house.
8.    Porch (औसारा)
 a covered shelter projecting in front of the entrance of a building.
9.    Letterbox (पत्र पेटी)
 a box attached to an outside wall, orr a slot in the door of a building, into which mail is delivered.
10. Eaves (कंगनी)
the part of a roof that meets or overhangs the walls of a building.
11. Windowsill (खिड़की के निचे निकली हुइ चट्टान)
 a shelf formed by the button part of the frame of a window.
12. Skylight (रोशन दान)
 an opening in a roof or ceiling fitted with glass, for admitting daylight.
13. Patio (आंगन) – 
a paved outdoor area adjoining a house.
14. Veranda (बरामदा) – 
a roofed platform along the outside of a house level with the ground floor.
15. Courtyard (चोक)
 an  unroofed area that is completely or partially enclosed by walls or buildings typically one forming  part of a castle or large house.
16. Ventilator (वायु प्रवाहक)
 an opening or device such as a fan, used to ventilate a room, building etc.
